Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions below
What is the difference between HiPP German, HiPP Dutch, and HiPP UK?
HiPP makes all three to EU standards, but for different markets. HiPP German has the widest range. It combines prebiotics and probiotics and adds a little organic starch to most stages after PRE. HiPP Dutch also has prebiotics and probiotics, but it’s starch-free and comes in an 800g tin. HiPP UK has prebiotics only and is also starch-free. Only the German line uses Metafolin®. We carry the German and Dutch versions.
Is HiPP HA (Hypoallergenic) considered "Organic"?
No. HiPP HA isn’t certified organic, because formulas made with hydrolyzed (broken-down) milk proteins don’t carry the EU organic label. It’s designed for babies at higher risk of cow’s milk allergy. It isn’t meant for babies already diagnosed with a cow’s milk protein allergy, so check with your pediatrician first.
What is Metafolin® and why is it in HiPP German formulas?
Metafolin® is L-methylfolate, the active form of folate. Folic acid has to be converted by the body before it can be used, but Metafolin® is ready to use as it is. That helps babies whose bodies convert folic acid less efficiently. Of the HiPP lines we carry, only HiPP German uses it.
Why does HiPP Anti-Reflux use Locust Bean Gum?
Locust bean gum, also called carob bean gum, is a natural thickener. A thicker formula is more likely to stay down, which can help reduce spit-up in babies with reflux. Use HiPP AR only on your pediatrician’s advice, not as an everyday formula for babies without reflux.
Does HiPP formula meet US and Canadian iron requirements?
HiPP is made to EU rules, which set lower iron levels than most US formulas use. The European approach assumes healthy full-term babies rely partly on their own iron stores in the first months. Iron then rises in the follow-on stages (Stage 2 and up) and comes from iron-rich foods from about 6 months. Ask your pediatrician whether the iron level suits your baby, especially if your baby was premature or has low iron.
