Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions below
Why is Holle Goat milk often better for "fussy" babies than cow milk?
It comes down to the A2 protein structure and fat globule size. Goat milk protein forms a smaller, softer "curd" in the baby’s stomach compared to the larger, firmer curds of cow milk. Additionally, goat milk contains smaller fat globules and a higher proportion of short- and medium-chain fatty acids, which are more easily absorbed by the infant's digestive enzymes. This results in faster gastric emptying and significantly less pressure on a developing gut, making it a premier solution for babies prone to gas and fussiness.
Is Holle Goat Milk formula truly Palm Oil-Free?
Yes. While Holle’s cow milk line utilizes sustainable palm oil to match breast milk's fatty acid profile, the Holle Goat line is 100% Palm Oil-Free. Goat milk is naturally rich in palmitic acid, which allows Holle to achieve the necessary fat profile using only organic sunflower and rapeseed oils alongside the natural whole goat milk fats. This makes it an ideal choice for parents who want to avoid palm oil entirely while ensuring their baby has soft, regular bowel movements.
Can Holle Goat be used for babies with Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA)?
While Holle Goat is excellent for babies with a sensitivity to cow milk, it is generally not suitable for babies with a medically diagnosed Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA). This is because the proteins in goat and cow milk are similar enough that "cross-reactivity" can occur in roughly 90% of CMPA cases. If your baby has a mild intolerance or struggles with the A1 proteins in cow milk, Holle Goat is a life-changer; however, for a true allergy, you should consult your pediatrician about specialized hypoallergenic options.
What is the difference between Holle Goat Stage 1 and Stage PRE?
Both are suitable from birth, but the difference lies in the carbohydrate complexity. Stage PRE: Uses lactose only as the carbohydrate source, making it the closest match to the thin, fluid consistency of breast milk. Stage 1: Includes organic maltodextrin alongside lactose. Maltodextrin is a slow-release carbohydrate that gives the formula a creamier texture and helps "hungrier" babies feel full for longer without being difficult to digest. For newborns under 8 weeks, we typically recommend starting with Stage PRE to keep the digestive load as simple as possible.
Does Holle Goat contain DHA, and where is it sourced?
es, Holle Goat contains essential DHA (Omega-3) for brain and vision development, but unlike many brands, Holle sources its DHA from algae oil instead of fish oil. This provides a high-purity, sustainable source of fatty acids without the "fishy" odor or taste. By using algal DHA, Holle ensures that the formula remains vegetarian-friendly and free from potential ocean-borne contaminants, aligning with the strict Demeter principles of purity and environmental harmony.
